Biltmore
Defunct
Anthony went on into the Biltmore, for no reason in particular except that the entrance was at hand, and ascending the wide stair found a seat in an alcove. He was furiously aware that he had been snubbed; he was as hurt and angry as it was possible for him to be when in that condition. Nevertheless, he was stubbornly preoccupied with the necessity of obtaining some money before he went home, and once again he told over on his fingers the acquaintances he might conceivably call on in this emergency.
The Beautiful and Damned
HISTORICAL BACKGROUND
Luxury hotel opened on 31 December 1913, promoted by railroad companies in the area around Grand Central Station. Designed by Warren and Wetmore in a style inspired by the Italian Renaissance, it had around one thousand rooms and suites and was famous for its public spaces, including direct access from Grand Central, large dining rooms, and rooms for banquets and meetings. It closed on 15 August 1981 and, although its structure was preserved, the building was gutted and converted into offices, reopening in 1984 as Bank of America Plaza. Over time it adopted other names and underwent further renovations, and since late 2022 it has been known as 22 Vanderbilt.
